Parks awarded for innovative exploration

The Hongqiao Park renewal project and the Zhongshan Park Wanhangdu Road section comprehensive improvement project have won the Excellence Award at the 2nd LA Landscape Architecture Awards for innovative exploration.

image021.jpg

The predecessor of Hongqiao Park was the Shanghai Children’s Transportation Park, which was completed and opened on June 1, 1987. It was renamed Hongqiao Park in 2006 and began overall renovation in 2022.

The design company has created a new era park from three aspects: reconstructing new links with new subjects, activating new daily life with new materials, and revitalizing new events with new art.

image023.jpg

The comprehensive renovation project of Zhongshan Park Wanhangdu Road section is mainly carried out from three dimensions: spatial boundary breaking, temporal boundary crossing, and perceptual integration.

The so-called boundary breaking refers to the project breaking through the walls of Zhongshan Park and the Changning campus of the East China University of Political Science and Lawvon both sides of Wanhangdu Road, relocating sidewalks to the interior of the park, and converting the original sidewalks into non-motorized lanes, at the same time, expanding the motor vehicle lanes, which not only creates a unique slow traffic landscape, but also enhances the convenience of smooth traffic on Wanhangdu Road.

After the walls are demolished, the park is integrated with the square beside, allowing people to get across freely.

Perceptual integration refers to the comprehensive integration and opening of the “centennial campus” and “centennial park,” the interaction and concealment of “centennial trees” and “centennial buildings,” and the passage of “centennial road” and “centennial public transport,” telling the story of time.
