The renovation of the Shanghai International Gymnastic Center has reached a major milestone. The newly completed Section II is designed as a four-level underground facility, reaching a maximum depth of 21.5 meters. Since construction began on February 12 this year, the project team has overcome multiple challenges, including complex geological conditions, the protection of surrounding buildings, and environmental requirements, as well as typhoons, heavy rainfall, and resource shortages. The successful completion of the underground structure has laid a solid foundation for the upcoming above-ground works.

On site, workers were seen busily moving between different work areas, while tower cranes stretched their long arms across the sky — a vivid scene of bustling construction.

As a key project in Changning District during the 14th Five-Year Plan, the renovation covers a total floor area of 117,000 square meters. Upon completion, the upgraded center will become an urban sports complex that integrates international competitions with public fitness. It will feature a main gymnasium and a training hall, capable of hosting major events such as international gymnastics competitions.
