On April 2, as part of the "Best Hongqiao • Gateway to the Metropolis" — 2026 "Shanghai Spring" 8th International Accordion Cultural and Art Week, a special inbound tourism performance took place at the arrival hall of Terminal 2 at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, offering a musical journey that blended traditional Shanghai folk tunes with contemporary pop hits to passengers arriving in Shanghai.

At 3pm, the melodious tune of “Hawthorn Tree” slowly filled the arrival hall of T2, instantly drawing many travelers to stop and listen. As the agile sound of the accordion traveled across mountains and seas, and diverse cultures met and collided, this key performance of the Art Week, presented by Changning Cultural Tourism authorities, focused on "culture + tourism" integrated innovation. By bringing together the district's rich cultural, tourism, and commercial resources, it created an immersive cultural tourism experience for citizens and visitors, extending this cultural charm to Hongqiao International Airport, an important gateway to the metropolis, allowing inbound tourists to feel the city's artistic vibe and humanistic warmth the moment they arrived in Shanghai.

"I didn't expect to see such a wonderful flash mob performance right after returning home. I heard the music and hurried over. This form of performance is original — it brings public culture more into daily life," said Mr. Chu, who had just returned to Shanghai from a business trip. A music lover himself, he felt that the flash mob performance gave him a true taste of Shanghai's artistic atmosphere. Ms. Sun, who had just gotten off the plane, also remarked: "It's rare for ordinary people like us to have the chance to see internationally renowned artists perform up close. This open-air performance at the airport was a delightful surprise."

This musical journey used art to enhance Shanghai's public tourism services for the metropolis. Through accordion performances, it not only highlighted the cultural charm of Changning District, characterized by "Hongqiao roots, international flair, digital sophistication, and boutique quality," but also vividly illustrated the inclusive and open nature of Shanghai-style culture.

"I've taken part in many performance formats these past two days that I've never experienced before. They've helped me get to know this beautiful city of Shanghai, which has such a rich cultural atmosphere," said Moldovan accordionist Lev Soromoynovich, a guest invited to the Accordion Cultural and Art Week. Although he had only been in Shanghai for four days, the performances had given him an unforgettable artistic journey.
In addition to the music flash mob, Changning Cultural Tourism authorities also broke the conventional framework of traditional tourism by partnering with the Shanghai Tourist Information & Service Center to present intangible cultural heritage displays and hands-on activities from Changning District. Inside the center, Shanghai silk embroidery, Shanghai paper-cutting, Shanghai-style embroidered ball making, egg carving, and other heritage crafts drew domestic and international visitors to stop and admire. Several inheritors of these intangible cultural heritage items were on site, introducing the crafts in detail and personally demonstrating techniques, allowing travelers to experience the unique cultural charm of intangible heritage while enjoying public tourism services.

This themed inbound tourism performance at Hongqiao Airport is a practice by Changning Cultural Tourism authorities to deepen the integration of culture and tourism and innovate tourist service methods. Supported by professional artistic standards and using inbound travel scenarios as a carrier, the event fully leveraged the radiating influence of the Changning Cultural Tourism brand, achieving a synergistic advance in cultural communication efficiency and tourism attraction.
The event was organized under the guidance of the World Accordion Alliance, hosted by the Shanghai Musician Association, the Shanghai Changning District Culture and Tourism Bureau, and the Shanghai Changning District Federation of Literary and Art Circles. It was organized by the Shanghai Changning District Culture and Tourism Management Center and the Accordion Professional Committee of the Shanghai Musician Association, and co-organized by Hugang Airport Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and the Shanghai Changning Culture and Art Center.
