Recently, the Changning branch venue of the 3rd Shanghai International Light Festival officially kicked off. Centered on the theme "Radiant Changning, Innovative Future," this branch venue brings light-and-shadow art to Wuyi Road, a century-old historic street. It links urban renewal landmarks including Wuyi MIX 320 and WYSH Feiyueli, blending industrial heritage, plane-tree streetscapes, sci-tech industries and bustling night-time life to create an immersive night tour landscape for SiliconAlley Shanghai.

Wuyi Road is one of Shanghai's 64 protected streets that will never be widened. As night falls, warm light filters through plane tree branches, and contour lights on old factory buildings light up one after another, breathing new life into historic textures. Serving as the core exhibition zone for Changning’s branch venue, the Wuyi Road area moves beyond simple light shows. It integrates light installations, commercial vitality and sci-tech scenes. Strolling visitors can trace the historical heritage of old Shanghai while feeling the pulse of urban renewal and industrial innovation.

Wuyi MIX 320 retains the rugged concrete industrial framework of the former factory. At dusk, light strips on the main buildings glow brightly, and art installations on the lawn shimmer in the dark. Shops such as FOURNIL bakery, Goose Island Brewhouse and Jiusi welcome guests with warm lights. In the open pedestrian zone, visitors chat and gather at outdoor seating. A traditional wet market, specialty restaurants and trendy stores converge here. The tough texture of industrial heritage gently meets everyday life, making this spot the most vibrant photo destination on Wuyi Road.

Nearby WYSH Feiyueli was once the Feilo Acoustics Factory, the birthplace of China's first stock certificate, preserving memories of Shanghai's national industry. The renovated compound keeps red-brick factory buildings and two British-style garden villas. Building contour lights trace gables and red tile roofs. Lights wind along spiral staircases and courtyards. Warm glow spills from the windows of vintage villas. Quiet and elegant after dark, the historic compound houses art spaces, designer boutiques and specialty restaurants, allowing industrial memories to coexist with modern life.
Beyond cultural tourism and consumption, Wuyi Road serves as a key hub for innovation along SiliconAlley Shanghai. Tech firms such as Westwell and Black Lake Technologies have settled in these old buildings, developing cutting-edge technologies inside former factories. This century-old street features not only historic scenery and street vitality, but also a core of technological innovation. During the light festival, sci-tech power echoes light art, vividly illustrating Changning's unique approach of "fostering innovation industries through urban renewal" and turning historic blocks into fertile ground for tech startups.

The Changning branch of the 3rd Shanghai International Light Festival ran through October 8. Residents and tourists may take night walks along Wuyi Road, explore industrial heritage amid light displays and experience the lively street atmosphere. Visitors can feel Changning's unique charm, which leverages light art to integrate heritage preservation, urban renewal, sci-tech development and the nighttime economy.
