Changning's scenic cycling trail offers peaceful fall escapes in Shanghai
Following the qiufen, or the Autumn Equinox, Shanghai has embraced mild autumn temperatures, ideal for outdoor activities. The Changning Outer Ring Greenway features a dedicated 6.25-kilometer cycling route dotted with quiet hidden spots, promising a relaxing day trip.

Riders are suggested to start at the Guangshun Rd N. entrance and cycle toward Konggang Rd N. The route crosses nine bridges and four service stations, passing over overpasses and gentle slopes for a varied riding experience. Instead of turning back at Konggang Rd N, visitors may cross the road to reach a ginkgo tree lane. The ginkgo leaves are just starting to turn pale yellow, creating a quiet, shaded retreat away from urban noise.
The one-way ride takes roughly 40 minutes. Travelers are advised to slow down on the return leg to admire early autumn scenery. Golden rain trees bear clusters of red fruits, while orange trees mix green and ripe fruit, presenting the classic autumn view described in ancient Chinese poetry.
The greenway boasts abundant wild beauty. Reeds sway in the wind and foxtail grass sways gently. Lotus and water lilies still bloom in ponds, and egrets wander along the water’s edge.
Visitors are free to wander off the main trail for unexpected discoveries. They can step into metasequoia groves and sit by ponds, listening to leftover cicada chirps and frog croaks while breathing fresh plant-scented air. The greenway provides a peaceful natural getaway to release daily fatigue.

Outdoor pop-up art events enliven autumn days in Changning
A series of open-air pop-up art events across Changning District brought theater, dance, music and intangible heritage performances to public spaces on October 7, expanding artistic experiences beyond traditional indoor venues.

Hosted by Changning's cultural and tourism authorities, the day-long program featured diversified public art activities, including aesthetic salons, street dance flash mobs, live string music and interactive puppet shows, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy immersive cultural experiences in commercial districts and landmark venues.
A cultural salon at Cheng Shifa Art Museum focused on contemporary interpretations of Song Dynasty aesthetics. Joined by professional dancers and cultural scholars, the event combined live dance demonstrations with in-depth discussions on inheriting and innovating traditional Chinese artistic beauty.
In the evening, public welfare dance pop-up took place at Crystal Bridge. Professional dancers from Shanghai International Dance Center staged outdoor performances in shopping malls, building an integrated art, public welfare and business model that makes high-standard stage art accessible to the public.
LIVAT Shanghai hosted an artist co-creation session and casual nighttime string recitals, creating a relaxed urban artistic atmosphere. The venue also staged Puppet Wonders, a refined Shanghai-style intangible heritage puppet show. With creative cloth puppetry, red silk choreography and interactive scenes, the family-friendly performance showcased the charm of traditional folk arts in modern urban spaces.
The district's autumn art campaign aims to enrich public cultural life, integrate art with daily urban scenarios and boost the vitality of Changning's cultural and commercial landmarks.
MODE Shanghai fashion show opens in Changning, bridging global designers and buyers
The 2027 Spring/Summer MODE Shanghai Fashion Show opened in Changning District on October 8, bringing together international and local designers.

Hosted at Crystal Bridge, the four-day exhibition runs through October 12, showcasing ready-to-wear apparel, accessories, fragrances and lifestyle products. Overseas brands account for more than half of all exhibitors, with participants from Italy, France, Russia, the United States and other countries.
Top international buyers including Galeries Lafayette Paris, New York-based 3NY and Italy's ANTONIOLI attended opening-day sourcing sessions. Multiple Shanghai-based independent designers secured overseas orders, highlighting the fair's efficient cross-border business matching capabilities.
Changning continues to foster original fashion creativity through policy support, venue resources and trade services. Local labels debuted innovative sustainable fabrics, plant-based textile technologies and modern reinterpretations of traditional Chinese intangible heritage craftsmanship. Several homegrown brands are scheduled to debut at Milan Fashion Week later this month.
The fair also prioritizes sustainable material innovation, featuring degradable PLA materials, eco-friendly textiles and 3D-printed lifestyle designs. It builds a complete industrial ecosystem linking material research, creative design, brand operation and global sales channels.
As a key international fashion platform in Shanghai, MODE empowers domestic designers to access global markets while introducing worldwide creative resources to fuel the city's fashion and consumption upgrade.
Tree-lined Changning District draws 5,000 firms with tailored business ecosystem
Xinhua Central Activity Zone, a plane tree-shaded historic block in Changning District, has attracted about 5,000 businesses by blending preserved heritage buildings, customized office spaces, targeted industry support and community co-governance.

The zone, managed by Xinhua Road Subdistrict, operates on a "one unique theme for each building, one distinctive brand for each park" model. Instead of using a generic investment playbook, officials design specialized industrial positioning for its 56 buildings and parks.
Columbia Circle, a landmark cultural and creative park, exemplifies the strategy. It leans into its historic architecture to court first-store and nighttime economy brands, including Bananain and Bathfeel. Bathfeel opened its national flagship store here in 2025 and registered its business locally, drawn by the area's laid-back vibe. The location serves not only as a retail outlet but also a live consumer research hub for the brand, with in-person product trials guiding formulation and packaging tweaks.
Chen Yingni, the subdistrict's business service specialist, said the goal is to build industry networks, not just rent office space. The government acts as a connector, organizing regular salons and matchmaking events to link upstream and downstream partners. It launched industry alliances for fashion consumption and coffee, helping local firms including tech provider UPIoT connect with Luckin Coffee and CHAGEE.
The subdistrict has rolled out a proactive service network with lounges and mini service stations within walking distance of offices. Dedicated coordinators support companies through registration, policy applications and talent recruitment.
Along Xingfu Road, the "Happiness Economy" project merges marriage services, dining, retail and green space. Luckin Coffee renovated its Xingfu Road location into Shanghai's first love-themed shop. Bi Hongcheng, general manager of Luckin Coffee (Shanghai), praised the smooth government communication channels and neighborhood quality of life.
Beyond direct services, the subdistrict uses roundtables, entrepreneur sports events and university partnerships to turn companies into co-builders of the business environment.
"Distinctive spaces, sound industrial ecosystems and heartfelt services. That is Xinhua's 'One Street, One Brand' concept," Chen said.
New micro transit hubs in Changning elevate convenient, stylish urban travel
Changning District has completed a network of upgraded micro transit hubs, integrating metro, bus, walking and green space to make urban commutes faster, more comfortable and visually appealing.

The newly operational Kaixuan Micro Hub joins the renovated Hongqiao and Shuicheng-Xianxia Road hubs to streamline regional traffic connections. The upgrades transform citizens' daily travel from rushed commuting into relaxed, pleasant journeys.
Located near Yan'an Rd W. Metro Station, the Kaixuan hub features a newly built aerial pedestrian bridge. It connects the metro exit, urban green spaces, parks and bus stops, forming a continuous pedestrian system. Passengers can cross roads safely without vehicle interference and access parks and public transit seamlessly.
The underpass area is refreshed with colorful flooring, artistic geometric murals and modern signage, creating a trendy, photo-friendly public atmosphere. Renovated bus shelters offer extra seating and improved barrier-free facilities, while polished exterior designs deliver a neat, contemporary look for efficient metro-bus transfers.
Finished in late 2025, the Hongqiao Micro Hub serves as a bus-and-rail transfer node linking Yili Road Metro Station and local bus stops. Its streamlined waterfall-style covered corridor uses ETFE membrane roofing and smart color-changing lights, presenting soft daylight effects and dynamic night scenery. Real-time bus information screens and vibrant landscape installations provide convenient and orderly waiting experiences.
Opened earlier this year, the Shuicheng Road-Xianxia Road Micro Hub supports zero-distance transfers among buses, taxis and shared bikes. Cultural display corridors showcase local transit history and ecological scenery, turning waiting time into immersive cultural experiences. The site also offers a dedicated rest station for outdoor workers with air conditioning, drinking water and daily supplies. A connecting wall between the hub and Shuixia Park was removed in July, further expanding public accessibility.
These user-centric micro hubs embody refined, integrated urban transportation development. They boost green travel efficiency and support the district's 15-minute community life circle and high-level public transit system.
Changning will continue expanding its compact, high-quality micro transit hub network during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, placing more accessible, people-friendly transit nodes across key urban areas to build a warmer and smarter public transportation ecosystem.
