Located in the Zhongshan Park, the British styled orange-and-black contemporary art museum used to be a former privately owned garden with a history dating back to 98 years ago, and is the first overseas original art works museum in China. It has collected thousands of pieces of original art works from 15 countries. Each of the exquisite oil paintings represents an artistic tradition rich with historic meaning, which will enable the viewers to take an art journey among different times and regions.
Wafts of the music collected by the owner of the museum and the pleasant fragrance of coffee and red wine are melting into the oil paintings created many years ago. Even the soft green grass and willows of a century’s age outside the museum constitute a natural oil painting, framed within the bright glass French windows. Sitting here with a cup of coffee in a warm afternoon, one is bound to be enjoying the artistic atmosphere omnipresent in the museum.
Today’s Foster Overseas Original Arts Museum is run by an architectural design company in Zhoujiaqiao. After an elaborate design, offset by the present exhibition of the “Plan of Zhongshan Park” and the old-fashioned square tables wrapped in newspapers of the Republic of China, the outstanding historical building with nearly a century’s history looks rather like an artistic teahouse. Among those wrapping newspapers, there is even one called “Zhujiajiao”, which might well be counted as a community newspaper in the time of the Republic of China.
