Smart study welcomes readers in holiday

AI anchor, reading machine, intelligent bookshelves, AI librarian ... The newly built smart reading space of Changning District Library — “New Page Study” met with readers during the “National Day” holiday.

For many years, Changning District Library has been exploring digital transformation to enable reader services. In 2007, Changning Library introduced “RFID self-service book checkouts and returns.”

In 2015, the “24-hour unattended library” was built, creating a library always open. In 2018, the library launched contactless book checkouts and returns. In 2019, the library launched “you choose books, I pay” service.

In the next stage, Changning District Library will extend the “smart library” scenario to all the nine communities and one town of the district to better serve the readers.

Meanwhile, the libraries of nine communities and one town in Changning have achieved great changes in recent years.

The library of Tianshan Road Community covers nearly 900 square meters and has a collection of more than 80,000 books. It was honored as one of the most beautiful grassroots libraries by the Library Society of China.

The library of Huayang Road Community covers more than 900 square meters and has a collection of nearly 60,000 books.

It established four smart book stations in the community to provide locals with “last mile” reading service.

The Xinhua Road Community Library has been renovated and with its conditions greatly improved. The whole library was digitalized and covers an area of 1,037 square meters and has a total collection of 54,570 books.

With the strong support of Xinjing Town, the Xinjing Town Library integrated all sorts of smart facilities. The total area of the library is 850 square meters and with a total collection of 66,689 books.

It sets up special shelves for intangible cultural heritage projects and local documents and does a good job in supporting documents and summarizing archives for intangible cultural heritage projects in Xinjing Town.
