Future landmark to promote cultural exchanges
A new landmark office building under construction in Hongqiao-Tianshan business area was with its main structure capped, which marked a phased progress of the project developed by the Nan Fung Group.
Not far away from its sister The Place, the project covers 15,300 square meters and neighbors Loushanguan Road in the east, Xianxia Road in the south, Ziyun Road W. in the north and Far East International Plaza and Gubei Apartment in the west.
The total building area is about 89,000 square meters, including a 20-story (4-story underground) building for cultural and artistic purposes and commercial office purposes and a 6-story (1-story underground) building for community administrative services.
In the south of the project, it is planned to open the only contemporary art space in Shanghai with a permanent exhibition of Chinese contemporary art.
It will be a contemporary art ecosystem integrating “permanent exhibition, special exhibition and public education” through a total of 6,000 square meters of art space above and below the ground.
The Shanghai Cultural and Art Exchange Center of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to be established will help the development of culture, education and science in the region, promote cultural exchanges at home and abroad, and provide a platform for regional public education, art forums and industry summits.
‘Children’s Dream Planet’ makes dream come true
In Hongqiao Community, there is such a child-friendly space called “Children’s Dream Planet,” which was designed by a local children’s autonomy team “King of Children” two years ago.
Two years later, this group of children with the “right to speak” upgraded and beautified this dreamland by co-building, co-governing and sharing.
Co-creation fosters community construction
There is a public service space with the theme of community building, Xinhua • Community Building Center, established last year at 345 Xinhua Road.
“Xinhua • Community Building Center is now divided into two scenarios, one is outdoor and the other is indoor. There are lawns and sports grounds outside and the main indoor is Building 4,” said Zhang Zhaoping, Party secretary of Xinhua residential compound.
East China Normal University has formed a cooperative partnership with the building center, and has set up a social practice base for students of East China Normal University Design School and an urban micro-renewal design experimental creation center.
A social organization is responsible for the daily operation of the building center. About 30 social workers are committed to entrepreneurship related to the community.
From a temporary building to the co-creation space of residents, Xinhua • Community Building Center has added rich public resources to nearby residents.
After the completion of the project, the neighborhood committee often uses the venue to hold activities, while residents also choose this place for spontaneous activities.
Projects to improve locals’ livelihoods
In 2023, Beixinjing Community will continue to promote the fulfillment of practical projects to improve locals’ livelihoods.
Main streets in the community, such as Jinzhong Road, Beiyu Road, Beihong Road and Pingtang Road and their surrounding areas will be with public services and facilities upgraded.
The construction of “15 minutes community life circle,” “digital community” and “green low carbon resilient community” will be accelerated together with the introduction of elderly care service, new energy vehicle charging piles and intelligent garbage removal box, transformation of waste and sewage pipes and the installation of more elevators.
‘National Science Popularization Demonstration Zone for 2021-2025’
On January 19, 2023, Changning District was named “National Science Popularization Demonstration Zone for 2021-2025” by the China Association for Science and Technology.
There are 14 national popular science education bases and 14 municipal popular science bases in Changning. Nearly one third of Changningers have scientific literacy, which ranks at the forefront of Shanghai.
In recent years, Changning Science Popularization has actively integrated into the great development pattern of the district Party committee and the district government, and formed three major brands of “Digital Science Popularization,” “International Science Popularization” and “Industrial Science Popularization” in combination with the industrial characteristics of “Digital Changning” foundation, international high-quality urban construction and artificial intelligence. The popularity of science continues to be “branded” and its influence continues to improve.
