New Hongqiao Central Garden Under-Bridge Sports Area Opens to Public

2023/03/21

The Rucker Park at New Hongqiao Central Garden officially opened its doors on March 13. This 2,100-square-meter under-bridge basketball sports area is accessible to the public 24 hours a day, with free admission from 6am to 9am on weekdays.

The basketball court features a striking yellow, blue, and orange color scheme. The entire sports area is divided into two parts: under the bridge and outside the bridge. The under-bridge space has four three-on-three basketball courts, while the outside space boasts four three-on-three and one five-on-five basketball courts, catering to the varied basketball needs of white-collar workers and residents of the surrounding area.

A white-collar worker said, “It’s very convenient, just across the street. With this court, we can come and play basketball during lunchtime, evenings or weekends.”

In addition to the under-bridge basketball courts, New Hongqiao Central Garden has already opened two football courts, one basketball court, and two badminton courts to the public, covering a vast area of 3,000 square meters.

Li Shujian, deputy director of the Hongqiao Subdistrict Office, noted that transforming the space under bridges has become a crucial solution for overcoming space limitations in central urban areas.

This transformation not only enhances the environmental quality of the city but also provides opportunities for white-collar workers and residents to enjoy leisure and sports activities, thus contributing to a high-quality life for all citizens, Li added.
