Shanghai's first habitat museum begins construction

2023/04/06

The city’s first "Habitat Museum" officially began construction in the Xiehe community of Lvba Neighborhood in Xinjing Town on March 30. It is expected to be completed and opened after two months of construction.

The habitat museum is located on the fourth floor of the Ningjuli in Lvba Neighborhood, with a floor area of approximately 600 square meters, including an entrance hall, an outdoor exhibition hall, an indoor exhibition hall, a habitat classroom, and a habitat bookstore.

In 2021, the Leyi Habitat Garden, the largest community habitat garden in Shanghai, was built in Lvba Neighborhood, with a total area of 732 square meters and a water platform of more than 500 square meters.

Shortly after the construction of this natural habitat park, it became popular in the community and throughout Shanghai, and even gained worldwide attention. It was once selected as a "Biodiversity 100+ Global Typical Case" and was exhibited during the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity held in October 2021.

Based on the concept of "harmonious coexistence between people and nature," the habitat museum will focus on the three characteristics of "habitat", "museum", and "community," and will be built as an ecological learning center, natural science popularization center, and shared lounge for the public.

After completion, the museum will complement and integrate with the outdoor Leyi Habitat Garden, further enriching the "15-minute community life circle."
