Changning's urban revitalization of Wuyi Road transforms industrial relics to cultural hubs
2024/02/20
On the first working day after the Spring Festival, Changning District revealed that following the renovation projects at Wuyi MIX320 and the headquarters of Black Lake Technology at 333 Wuyi Road, three urban renewal projects on Wuyi Road will soon open.
Located at 168 Wuyi Road, Feiyueli (WYSH) is situated on the former site of Feilo Acoustics Factory. The project revitalized the industrial memory of the factory through renovation and expansion, blending old and new architecture to create a multi-functional cultural activity space with two underground levels and five above-ground levels. The total construction area of the space is around 18,500 square meters. Meanwhile, protective restoration work was also carried out on two old Western-style buildings.
Just a street away, the former site of Shanghai Fourth Electric Meter Factory has been transformed into New Quadrant • Wuyi. Since its completion in August last year, confirmed occupants include Westwell Technology and the Culture Department of the French Consulate. The project aims to attract high-quality enterprises in fields such as artificial intelligence, high technology and culture.
Scheduled to finish construction and open to the public in the second quarter of this year, Xin Xiu Hui at 200 Wuyi Road is located on the former site of a dermatology hospital. It will become a comprehensive space integrating Livehouse venues, art exhibitions, fashion events, and more.
Zhou Jing, deputy director of the Changning District Construction and Management Commission, said that due to limited land sizes along Wuyi Road and its proximity to residential areas, renovation projects often involve a mix of old and new buildings. The challenge is to protect and restore historical buildings while creating space for industry and minimizing disruptions during construction.
