The official website of the Chinese Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday that Shanghai Changning athlete Wang Xinjie has been selected for the national rifle and pistol shooting team's Paris Olympic team lineup, becoming Changning's first athlete to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Born in October 1996, Wang was trained by Xia Ping, a senior coach at Changning District Youth Sports School. He attended Tianshan Second Primary School and Tianshan Middle School in Changning District. He joined the Shanghai team in 2013 and the national team in 2021.
As a newcomer, Wang participated in an international competition for the first time at last year's Baku Shooting World Championships and successfully won the men's 25 meter pistol rapid shooting team championship with his teammates Li Yuehong and Liu Yangpan for the Chinese team.
At the subsequent Hangzhou Asian Games, the three of them once again worked together to win the team gold medal in this event. Being selected for the Olympic team is a new breakthrough in Wang’s sports career.
After being selected for the Olympic team, the next four months are crucial for Wang. He said that he will maintain a stable mindset, strengthen his skills and continuously improve in the next stage of training and competition, striving to achieve good results on the Paris field.
