In the peony garden covering about 4,000 square meters in Zhongshan Park, a variety of peonies are in full bloom.
As one of the renowned flower-viewing spots in Shanghai, the peony garden in Zhongshan Park attracts a large number of visitors every spring. The meticulous management and care of the park ensure the healthy growth of peonies, presenting them in their most beautiful state.
The establishment of the peony garden can be traced back to 1956, serving as the exclusive planting ground for Fahua peonies. The Peony Pavilion in the garden, built in 1916 and relocated to its current location in 1934, showcases the unique charm of traditional Chinese classical garden architecture with its distinctive gable and hip roof architectural style and stone lions in front of the pavilion.
Today, the peony garden boasts over 30 varieties and more than 1,500 peony plants, including precious varieties with a growth history of over 60 years.
From April 13 to 14, Zhongshan Park will host the annual Peony Festival. During this time, a series of entertaining and interesting activities will be held, offering the citizens a cultural feast in the springtime.
