A golden tribute to Shakespeare

2024/04/23

The "Transforming Shakespeare into Gold - Commemorating the 460th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s Birth," hosted by the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles and co-organized by the Shanghai Art Collection Museum and Shakespeare's Birthplace Trust in the United Kingdom, opened on Saturday at the Shanghai Art Collection Museum.

Shakespeare, a giant of the world literary circle born in the UK in the 16th century, is not only a shining pearl in the history of drama but also an eternal witness to human wisdom and emotion. His works transcend national, linguistic and historical boundaries.

The exhibition showcases over 100 diverse exhibits, including Shakespeare's classic works, personal items, archival materials and precious publications from home and abroad.

Among them, many treasures have crossed the seas for the first time to meet a broad domestic audience. These include Shakespeare's handwritten will, a ring seal that was once on the playwright's finger, a corner of the literary giant's desk, and a copy of "Measure for Measure" printed in 1685.

The exhibition also features precious collections from the Shanghai Art Collection Museum, the Shanghai Library, and the UK's National Archives, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with Shakespeare's life and achievements through a variety of exhibits, and to fully experience the beauty of drama and literature.

The exhibition will run until May 19.
