2024/06/07

As World Cultural and Natural Heritage Day is coming, the Changning District Library, in collaboration with Tianshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, officially opened the TCM Study on Wednesday.

The study is centered on inheriting and promoting the culture of traditional Chinese medicine. It combines the profound essence of TCM culture with modern reading methods, creating a unique reading space that encompasses a collection of TCM classics, intangible cultural heritage displays, health knowledge dissemination and exchanges in TCM culture.

Located within Tianshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, the study boasts a rich collection of books covering various fields of TCM including basic theories, pharmacology, acupuncture and massage.

"We prepared a list of needed books and then collected them through the Shanghai Library and other sources, gathering around 300 volumes," said Pu Liwei, deputy curator of Changning District Library.

The design of the study is also innovative, integrating TCM elements with the intangible cultural heritage elements of the "Ma-style facial paralysis therapy." It exhibits TCM medical tools, traditional medical and pharmaceutical crafts, acupuncture, massage and other intangible cultural skills.

The study also houses a special TCM medical kit belonging to the  "King of Wound Healing" Gu Xiaoyan from renowned TCM surgical family. The upper layer of the suitcase contains various topical medications for TCM surgery, while the lower layer holds various surgical instruments, allowing visitors to gain a more direct understanding of some of the old TCM practices.

Wu Bin, the deputy director of Tianshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, told reporters that the study focuses on inheriting and promoting the culture of traditional Chinese medicine. By hosting TCM cultural lectures, training and practical education and academic exchanges, it provides a one-stop knowledge learning and exchange platform for medical professionals and TCM students, promoting the deep development of TCM in Changning.

In the future, the study will also host various TCM cultural experience activities periodically, allowing the public to immerse themselves in the charm of TCM culture.
