Silk Road music celebrates Spring Festival at Gubei Jincheng

2025/01/20

“Silk Road Music and Ethnic Traditions,” an event to welcome Spring Festival at a multinational neighborhood, took place recently at Gubei Jincheng Apartments.

The event began with professional musicians from the Mongolian and Uyghur ethnic groups introducing children to traditional instruments such as the morin khuur, or horsehead fiddle, tambur, dutar, and hand drums.

During the concert segment, music pieces like “Camel Step” and “Ethnic Wind” on the morin khuur, “Tarim” and “Spanish Dance” on the tambur, and collaborative performances of “Journey to the West” and “Happy Sheep” with piano accompaniment captivated the audience with their enchanting melodies.

A highlight took place when children donned ethnic costumes and played colorful hand drums to the rhythm of the tambur, performing the well-known song “Lift Your Bridal Veil.”

The event also featured interactive games, such as Mongolian wrestling, writing in Mongolian script and painting Xinjiang hand drums.

The event was initiated by Zhu Lin, a young pianist who studied overseas and now resides in the Gubei community.

She founded her piano studio in Hongqiao Subdistrict and created the LCM Land music platform to preserve and promote China’s ancient ethnic musical heritage.
