Liu Haisu Art Museum's anniversary exhibition celebrates 30 years of art

2025/03/19

The Liu Haisu Art Museum officially opened its 30th-anniversary commemorative exhibition on March 16, featuring a total of 144 works and documents, including many masterpieces.

The Liu Haisu Art Museum is China’s first provincial-level national art museum named after an individual. It is a comprehensive art museum that integrates functions such as collection and preservation, academic research, exhibition display, educational promotion, and cultural exchange.

This exhibition showcases 144 works and documents, with many precious ancient paintings being displayed for the first time. These works not only demonstrate Liu Haisu's artistic achievements but also reflect his outstanding contributions to Chinese art education. The exhibition is divided into four chapters.

In the first chapter, visitors can see precious collections donated by Liu, including artistic treasures from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) by Tang Yin and Dong Qichang, as well as his own representative works. These pieces not only highlight Liu's exceptional artistic prowess but also underscore his profound legacy as a pioneer of China's New Art Movement and a foundational figure in modern art education.

The second chapter focuses on the museum's mission as a cultural carrier, bringing together works by foreign masters and contemporary Chinese renowned artists. These works not only reflect the historical continuity of the Shanghai School of Art but also showcase innovative expressions in contemporary painting.

The third chapter takes visitors on a journey through outstanding works from past Shanghai Youth Art Exhibitions. These pieces are filled with youthful vitality and innovative spirit, demonstrating the exploration and aspirations of a new generation of artists.

The fourth chapter, through precious historical materials, traces the museum's 30-year development journey, allowing visitors to appreciate its relentless efforts in inheritance and innovation.

In this exhibition, the museum pioneered innovative digital art display methods. In the lobby, a nearly 50-square-meter 8K ultra-high-definition screen uses AIGC technology to digitally analyze and reconstruct Liu's floral works, creating dynamic light and shadow effects that evoke the rejuvenation and vibrancy of spring.

This exhibition is open to the public free of charge and will run until May 28.
