2025/11/14
The 2025 China Squash Open was launched at the Shanghai Mart on the evening of November 10.
Top 10 world-ranked men's and women's singles players, including Paul Coll, Mohamed Elshorbagy, Hania El Hammamy, and Amina Orfi, made appearances at the launch ceremony. Chinese wildcard players will also compete on the same stage as the world's top athletes.
During the ceremony, Shanghai Jiusi Sports Industry Development (Group) Co Ltd, together with the District Sports Bureau, unveiled the tournament trophy. The trophy ingeniously integrates sharp lightning elements with the silhouette of Shanghai's skyline, symbolizing the speed and passion of squash while representing the perfect integration of the event with the modern metropolis.
According to Yu Yiqing, project director of the 2025 China Squash Open, this year marks the event's upgrade to a gold-level tournament. With a total prize pool of US$249,000 and 1,800 points for the singles champion, the event holds strong appeal for the world's top players. Notably, both the men's and women's world No. 1 players are participating—a rare occurrence in global gold events, highlighting Shanghai's international appeal and the tournament's prestige.
Beyond the matches, the event leverages Changning District's commercial and cultural tourism resources by organizing activities such as a trendy sports carnival, athlete meet-and-greets, CityWalk tours, and shopping district promotions. These initiatives use the tournament as a link to promote the coordinated development of culture, tourism, commerce, sports, and exhibitions.
The first two days of the competition was held at Shanghai Diamond Squash Center, with the Xianxia Tennis Center hosting the matches from November 13 to 16.
