Changning’s ‘leaf-keeping’ streets paint autumn vistas

From December 1 to 15, four roads in Changning District—Hunan Road, Tai'an Road, Longxi Road, and Tianzhong Road—have entered the “no leaf sweeping” period. The streets, each with its own character, will present residents with poetic seasonal landscapes.

Hunan Road (Huashan Road - Xingguo Road) 

Autumn on Hunan Road is dominated by plane trees. Golden leaves drift down and spread layer upon layer, forming a warm, rich maillard-toned scroll. The historic buildings on both sides complement the golden carpet, adding a touch of natural tranquility to this vibrant street.

Tai'an Road (Huashan Road - Xingguo Road) 

Tai'an Road also features plane trees, with denser foliage and leaves accumulating in textured layers. Sunlight filters through the branches, casting soft shadows on the golden path. The entire street becomes an immersive autumn corridor bathed in gentle light and shade.

Longxi Road (Hongqiao Road - Jianhe Road) 

The autumn hues of Longxi Road are softly painted by the leaves of soapberry trees. The foliage transitions from pale yellow to deep gold, creating a variegated palette on the pavement.

Tianzhong Road (Changning Road - Tianshan Road) 

Adjacent to a school campus, Tianzhong Road offers a uniquely warm autumn scene. Ginkgo leaves scatter like little fans, resting beside red walls. The blend of vermilion and gold creates a gentle, bright schoolyard landscape.

The “no leaf sweeping” practice is not simply about leaving leaves untouched—it reflects refined maintenance. Sanitation workers in Changning District will adopt a “patrol-based collection and dynamic upkeep” approach: clearing debris from the leaves daily, checking drainage outlets regularly, and switching to prompt sweeping during rain or haze to ensure safe and clear passage. When leaves accumulate beyond a certain level, they will be cleared at appropriate times, striking a balance between scenery and safety.
