Changning launches new cultural tour blending history, nature and art
2025/12/19
A new, thoughtfully curated cultural and tourism route has debuted in Changning District, seamlessly connecting popular landmarks and emerging experiential spaces.
The route integrates the district's historical fabric, ecological leisure, natural healing, trendy technology, and artistic ambiance, featuring stops such as Yuyuan Road, Zhongshan Park, the Xijiao State Guest Hotel, Shanghai Zoo, The Place, and Columbia Circle.
The journey begins at the Changning Tourist Information Service Center on Yuyuan Road. A stroll along this historic street immerses visitors in Shanghai's unique architectural charm. The lush green lawn of the former residence of Wang Boqun, pioneer of China's modern democratic revolution and patriotic educator, the wall commemorating historical figures, and the vintage yet vibrant atmosphere of Yuyuan Radio Cafe blend the past with contemporary energy.
Leaving behind the historical allure of Yuyuan Road, the next stop is the Zhongshan Park dock, where visitors can board a cruise for a journey along Suzhou Creek. The boat offers panoramic views of the riverside promenade near the East China University of Political Science and Law.
After disembarking, a walk through the century-old Zhongshan Park brings visitors face-to-face with a 159-year-old plane tree. The tour continues through the historic campus of the university, past architectural treasures spanning a century, with a chance encounter of the iconic century-old Bus No. 20 passing by.
Transitioning from the riverside serenity, the route soon arrives at the Xijiao State Guest Hotel, known as an "urban oasis." This garden-style hotel, sprawling over 1,200 mu, preserves lush ancient trees and elegant water features while offering warm hospitality and delightful culinary services.
Following a brief respite, the itinerary shifts to the wilder charms of Shanghai Zoo. Here, visitors can observe rare species up close, engage in fun interactive activities to learn about species conservation and scientific knowledge, and browse adorable animal-themed cultural and creative products, all while experiencing the restorative power of nature.
After immersing in natural wonders, the afternoon transitions into an art and trendy mode. The Yifung Center is currently hosting the "The Great Art of Dunhuang" exhibition, while The Place presents the East China debut of "Whimsical Dreamland" from the Wilderland, a fairy-tale playground originally created by a father for his daughter.
The final stop of the tour is Columbia Circle. Visitors can explore the Sun Ke Villa and the Navy Club Pool, where the unique architectural styles and exquisite interior displays of these historical buildings invite lingering moments and perfect photo opportunities.
