Haisu Culture Plaza to transform into day-night lifestyle hub

2026/01/23

Taking the business format renewal of its 5,000-square-meter underground space as a starting point, Haisu Culture Plaza, located at the intersection of Yan'an Road W. and Kaixuan Road, is being transformed into a comprehensive complex combining culture, tourism, commerce, sports, and exhibition.

It will integrate "pet economy + daytime sports lifestyle" with "nighttime economy + ticket stub economy" and is expected to be fully renewed in the second quarter of this year.

Following the renewal, the above-ground commercial area of Haisu Culture Plaza will leverage the natural environment of Haisu Green Space, relocating pet-related businesses originally situated underground to the surface. Combined with existing sports brands like Ning Fitness and Banana Climbing, the plaza will shape a daytime consumption space centered around pet-friendliness and healthy living.

The newly unveiled underground space will focus on nighttime economy, with music culture at its core. Several anchor tenants specializing in live performances will be introduced, gradually forming a nighttime consumption cluster centered on music performances and party events. The 5,000-square-meter underground music park will encompass various music styles including rock, electronic, world music, jazz, and hip-hop.

Among these, the most notable is Yu Yin Tang, Shanghai's veteran live house with years of operation in Changning. Opening its new store in a "music town" mode within the underground of Haisu Culture Plaza, Yu Yin Tang has built performance spaces accommodating 350 and 150 people, respectively, replicating the scene and style of its old Kaixuan Road location.

ZhaoDai, an electronic music landmark from Beijing, has opened its first Shanghai store, REACTOR, at Haisu Culture Plaza, bringing authentic Techno-style electronic music parties to local music enthusiasts.

Haisu Culture Plaza has also attracted several integrated format merchants, including the comprehensive cultural space Illum Club, which blends club, bar, café, exhibition, performance, and community activities.

"In the future, Haisu will connect with more exhibition halls and performance venues to achieve a one-stop cultural consumption experience integrating exhibition viewing, performance watching, shopping, dining, and sports," said a manager from the New Changning Group which operates the complex.
