Cycling challenge in Changning bring sports lovers close to autumn breeze, greenry

On September 19, the 2026 Shanghai Mass Sports Season·Shanghai Cycling Carnival Changning Station and the first "Cycling Gathering at Hongqiao" Changning Outer Ring Greenway Cycling Challenge kicked off.

Nearly 500 cycling enthusiasts gathered early in the morning and cycled 18 kilometers along the Changning Outer Ring Ecological Greenway and Guangshun North Road, embarking on an autumn cycling trip amidst the morning breeze, greenery, and sea of​flowers.

Early in the morning, participants arrived at the East Hongqiao Center to register and check in. At 8:00 AM, cyclists set off from the lawn next to Zhenluxuan, the No. 4 rest station on the Changning Greenway, riding north along the greenway.

Before 9:00 AM, the first group of participants had already reached the finish line; around 9:15 AM, most participants had finished their ride.

Unlike professional races that emphasize competitive rankings, this cycling challenge does not involve speed competition or rankings. As long as participants finish within the time limit, they will receive an official medal and souvenir.

The Changning Outer Ring Ecological Greenway is 6.25 kilometers long and covers an area of 55 hectares. Along the route, dense forests, flower fields, waterfront landscapes, and distinctive rest stops are interconnected, allowing participants to experience the ecological beauty of the city while exercising.

For many participants, the meaning of the race lies in completing the entire course and enjoying the scenery along the way. Ms. Jiang works nearby and often takes walks along the Changning Outer Ring Ecological Greenway. This was her first time participating in a cycling race. "The greenway is beautiful, the event is well-organized, and I felt very relaxed."

A seasoned cycling enthusiast, Mr. Pan usually covers hundreds of kilometers on trips to other cities. He participated in the race on an electric-assist bicycle, and his bike and equipment were very professional. "The 18-kilometer distance is easy for me," he said.

Beyond cycling, the event extended its reach to the surrounding commercial district. On race day, the East Hongqiao Center became a hub for cyclists, where they not only registered and received their finisher medals, but also parked, prepared, ate, shopped, and took photos, creating a joyful atmosphere.

The event fully leverages the Changning Outer Ring Greenway, integrates cycling check-ins, route experiences, supply services, and brand displays into the event, transforming the greenway into a sports space and extending the cycling route to surrounding commercial areas.
