Shanghai Hongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone, the only one in China characterized by a commercial and trade center, is a national economic and technological development zone integrating exhibition, office work, residence, catering and shopping, located in west Shanghai with a land area of 0.65 square kilometers. The planned construction area is up to 1.5 million square meters. 27 buildings of a total floorage of 1.38 millionsquare meters have now been accomplished, including the 480,000-square-meter construction area of high-class office buildings, the 300,000-square-meter exhibition site, the 240,000-square-meter hotels, the 260,000-square-meter business and residential buildings, and the 100,000-square-meter life and entertainment facilities. The development zone has built itself into one of Shanghai’s emerging commercial and trade centers. Every year, over 100 large-scale international and domestic exhibitions are held in INTEX Shanghai and Shanghai Mart in the development zone, embracing more than 1 million exhibitors and visitors. So far, more than 2,000 companies from both home and abroad have established their offices in the development zone. Hongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone, the only one containing a consulate area, has signed contracts with 6 countries on consulate construction on the basis of land lease, and 15 consulates have now been built.
