Art space in old house interprets city spirit

The designer of the public living room at 305 Wuyi Road also created Shanghai Time art space in Jing’an Villa in neighboring Jing’an District.
The new art space in the historic Jing’an Villa is open to the public in January to unite art producers, curators, artists and art category promoters to change the way people appreciate art and interpret the infinite creative ability of art through innovative exhibition.
Qu Tiecheng, at the same time, shares the urban renewal achievements at Wuyi Road to more people.
Qu introduced that he hopes to lead citizens and art lovers to deeply understand the architecture and art in Stonegate villa and jointly explore the infinite possibilities of Shanghai style culture with the help of Shanghai Time art space, just like the public living room at No. 305 Wuyi Road.
Referring to the experience of participating in the urban renewal of Wuyi Road, Qu was quite impressed. “I live and work in Changning. I’m glad to participate in building ‘Tranquil and Elegant Wuyi.’
“From October 2019 to May 2020, the project of public living room at 305 Wuyi Road takes a short time and gains a lot.”
Qu fully respected the historical details, retained the main features of old buildings such as roof windows, brick wood structure and exterior wall texture, and adopted modern fabricated wood structure technology, which greatly improved the quality of old buildings and retained the historical features.
After its opening, art exhibitions, cultural and creative activities, theme forums and community activities were held in the public living room. for many times, integrating culture and art with community life, activating the old neighborhood, and won the honorary nomination of Shanghai Design 100 +, 2020 Special Award for Urban Renewal, APDC Asia Pacific Design Award and Outstanding Property Award London.
The 1.7-kilometer-long Wuyi Road, built in 1925, is one of 64 roads in Shanghai to have been given protected status.
The road is to become an “international culture and innovation street,” featuring fashion boutiques, traditional restaurants and recreational facilities.
According to a blueprint released by Changning government, outdated facilities, factories and old neighborhoods will be redeveloped into innovation parks and boutique street stores.
